Washington Medicaid Dental Coverage

Updated August 2026

Dental services for children age 20 and younger are covered directly by Apple Health (Medicaid) using your ProviderOne services card — covering all medically necessary dental services under the federal EPSDT mandate. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends all children see a dentist by 12 months of age.

Washington Medicaid covers comprehensive dental for children and a solid preventive-to-restorative benefit for adults

Dental services for both children and adults are covered directly by Apple Health (Medicaid) using your ProviderOne services card, rather than through a separate dental plan administrator. Apple Health for Kids delivers full EPSDT dental benefits — including orthodontics when medically necessary. Adult Apple Health (21+) covers exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, and front-tooth root canals, though bridges, porcelain crowns, orthodontics, implants, and back-tooth root canals are not covered. Find a dentist through DentistLink at dentistlink.org or 1-844-888-5465.

Adult Apple Health dental benefits

Dental services for adults (21 years of age and older) are covered directly by Apple Health using your ProviderOne services card — not through a separate dental plan administrator. Washington provides a broader adult dental benefit than most states, covering routine and some restorative care.

  • Routine exams and cleanings
  • Dental X-rays
  • Fillings
  • Fluoride application
  • Extractions (removing teeth)
  • Root canal treatment (front teeth only)
  • Dentures and partials
  • Stainless steel crowns

Some services are not covered for adults: bridges, porcelain crowns, orthodontics (braces), dental implants, and root canals on premolars and molars. Members enrolled in Developmental Disabilities Community Services (DDCS) qualify for extra dental benefits, including three exams, three cleanings, and three fluoride treatments per year, plus additional periodontal and sealant coverage.

How to find an Apple Health dental provider

Dental benefits are covered directly by Apple Health rather than through a separate dental plan administrator. To find a participating dentist, visit DentistLink at dentistlink.org or call 1-844-888-5465. You can also use the Apple Health provider directory at fortress.wa.gov/hca/p1findaprovider or call 1-800-562-3022, or search InsureKidsNow.gov for children's dental providers.

Washington's FQHCs and community health centers also provide Apple Health dental services. Many accept walk-in patients for emergency care. Use the HRSA Health Center Finder at findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov to locate a center near you.
